Years back it was considered somewhat of a rural small town, but with urban sprawl and the growth of the RTP (Research Triangle Park) Cary and Raleigh are now fused together into a larger Metro area of Raleigh.

Maynard Road is considered the inside loop of Cary and Cary Parkway is the outer loop, although it does not make a complete loop and is the mainly in South to West part of the town.
